The day dragged slowly for the trio of slavers. They finally reached what they thought would be half the way where the girl fell and the forest's exit. If they were to plan their next course of action, that spot was ideal. Anyone wanting to leave the dense forest would pass at that area. Even if they weren’t able to see them because of the distance, the rogue could spot them with his skills. Or at least that was what the mage and the warrior were counting on. For his own good as well.
“We’ve been walking for too long without rest. We’ll stop here.” As the mage said that, the other two agreed.
They were exhausted. The rogue rested his back on a tree and the warrior put everything he was carrying on the ground. The lack of sleep, the dangerous path they walked to pass through and then to descend from the mountain and the slow walking in the forest drained their stamina. Each of them grabbed their own waterskin and drank some water.
“Wish had som’ beer.” The warrior complained but he couldn’t deny that the water was needed. He drank it like there was no tomorrow. Almost emptying the recipient.
But there was someone thirstier and more tired than all three of them. The girl tied-up on the horse. Even if she wasn’t able to walk, her limbs were uncomfortably tied for so long that her entire body was hurting. She tried to move her limbs, even if slightly, to shift some of her weight from one point to another. But it was in vain.
The warrior looked at the girl and she immediately shivered scared. Every time he stared at her he had a lustful expression on his eyes and that frightened her to no end. As if at any time he would do something to her. He walked toward her slowly and she immediately tried to cower, but her restraints made that impossible.
"Ya wanna some?"
The warrior had his waterskin on his hand and seemed to be offering it to her. She was thirsty, her throat was dry. She was afraid but she nodded her head. She desperately needed some water. But it came as some sort of mockery toward her, as the warrior dropped over her head the small quantity of water that he had. He laughed out loud at her predicament. For her what was left was to cry. After he finished, he went near the mage.
“…” He looked at the scene before him but the rogue remained silent as he drank his share.
The rogue knew that any word that came from him would only bring trouble. His eyes would meet with the mage’s or the warrior and a cold death stare was what he would receive. The warrior was dangerous and unpredictable, as that useless bullying toward the slave would tell. If they were to fight he wouldn't be able to tank a single hit from that all-muscled man. Any damage would be deadly. But he was certain that he could dodge them, if he knew what to expect. The mage however, he wasn’t so sure.
That guy gives me the creeps.
He thought on how the mage would act toward them. Indifferently, cold and dismissive toward everyone. But also, not one act from him was without giving it proper thought and planning. As an example, the way they captured that girl in white armor. She fought him and the warrior and won. They might have underestimated her but she had a bit of skills. The mage just laid low, using an invisible spell and stroke when she had her guard down. Where two failed he succeeded without dropping a sweat. For the rogue, it meant that that magic caster was very cautions and cunning man. The most dangerous one.
At that time, fighting the bitch... He used us as bait. I should have left these fuckers a long time ago.
It’s not that he couldn’t abandon them at the time. But staying with them was profitable. If he wanted, he could run and flee from these two. That would be fairly simple for the rogue. He was faster and nimbler than the other two. But there was no point in doing that anymore. In fact, it was useless. If he escaped now, they would hunt him down. As the people he owns money. There was no best-case scenario for him.
Leaving the kingdom requires more money… that I don’t have. I’m in a corner here.
“Hey!”
The rogue got startled. The mage called for him when he was immersed in thoughts. He looked at the mage's direction.
“W-what is it?”
The mage just sighed with that awkward response from the rogue, as if telling that what he had to say wasn’t necessary at all to be explained.
“What are you waiting for? Go look for that girl! We need to confirm if she’s alive or not.”
That didn't come as a request nor pointing at his obligations. It was like an order from a commander toward his soldier.
"Hey! I’m the one in a hurry to look for that lass but I need some rest too. Gimme me ten minutes and I’ll go look. I’m already in deep shit as it is.”
It came from behind him, a strong smack on his back. It hurt like a full blow over his body. The warrior went behind him and with his hand he smacked the rogue’s back. The blow was loud and hard and made him fall on all fours. His waterskin flew a few meters away as he dropped it. The man that caused pain on him was looking at him, smirking. The rogue could feel the threat clearly. The rogue stood up and tried to look as casual as possible, cleaning the dirt from his knees. But, before the rogue could recover completely, he felt a strong grip on his left shoulder.
"No time to waste, man! I'll be right behin' ya."
If the warrior put any more strength on his shoulder he would possibly dislocate it. Probably that was his intensions if he refused to hurry up. And by staying close to him they would keep their eyes on his every move.
"Alright, alright! I get it. I'll look for her right now."
“Before you go, you two help me with this.”
The mage pointed to the horse, mentioning the slave girl tied on it. He wanted to remove her from the animal but since his strength was poor he wasn’t able to carry the weight of a single girl. What he might have in magic abilities he lacked in muscles. Such was the weakness of most magic casters.
“What? Why?”
It didn't make sense for the rogue. The slave was secured like that. The animal might be tired but it could manage a bit more.
“I’ll travel back to the city and arrange the papers for registering the slaves. I can go faster without this burden and return soon. I’ll bring horses for you two as well.”
It made sense. Actually, they should had done that hours ago. But, most likely, the mage didn't trust the rogue any longer to leave him alone, even if the warrior was keeping him company. It meant that his mind changed for some reason and that made the rogue worried.
“Why that all of a sudden?”
He asked but both of them were untying the girl from the horse but keeping her arms and legs restrained. Soon the girl was on the ground, hogtied. The rogue checked each rope she had and made sure every knot was out of her reach. He then made a loop on a spare rope, put it on her neck and tied the other end of the rope on a tree. The girl wasn’t going anywhere. When the mage confirmed the same thing, he answered.
“If that girl is, by any chance, alive, I don’t trust you two can take her back easily. That’s why.”
The rogue took that as a blow on his pride. Yes, that girl got the better out of him and the warrior. But the mage’ s words meant that he didn’t believe at all at their skills. He wasn’t happy but he managed his temperament. The warrior on the other hand…
“What do ya mean by that? HAH?? YOU SAYIN’ THAT BITCH CAN BEAT ME? IS THAT IT?!”
The mage just sighed, taking that outburst as something unworthy of a serious reply. He climbed the horse and went on his way.
“That's exactly what I’m saying. But I can be wrong and you might get her back without any troubles. That would be much better for all of us. But even someone like you should understand that registering those two slaves and getting back with more horses and provisions would be wise. With that, I take my leave.”
To say that the warrior was mad with anger by the mage's condescending tone was an understatement. As soon as the mage left the camp and their sight, the warrior hurled his greatsword into a nearby tree. The rogue had to be fast, because he only saw a massive block of metal being thrown at his direction. One fraction of a second, a single miscalculation and there wouldn’t be much of his body remaining. As also another stroke of luck, the tree hit was far from where the slave was tied to, but not too much. The girl, by seeing such display of madness, tried to cower and was crying, fearing for her life.
This is insane! This fucker almost killed me!
It was like finally seeing their true nature. Even though they weren't friends, they have been partners in crime for a while. Their job had been without difficulties for so long. But the stress caused by the rogue's gambling addiction and their first slave that escaped from them showed how frail that partnership was.
There was nothing to do for now but to complete this task. To retrieve their slave or, at least, find her body. But, for the rogue, he had another gamble to make. He had to find that blond kight girl alive and capture her again.

The forest was huger than Amara thought. The dense vegetation extended for kilometers and it seemed to have no end to it. Nadia, on the other hand, walked in front of her, carrying her leash on her left hand and with her right she used her scimitar to cut small branches that were blocking their way.
Although, Amara had other things that were on her mind. More like something constantly reminding her of its existence. It was bearable for the first couple hours but now her she was having a hard time ignoring it. The crotch rope that Nadia tied on her.
It wasn't bringing her any sort of pain. But the non-stopping friction of a meticulously well-placed knot was driving her crazy, so to speak. It was teasing her through her panties as she walked and as time passed by the sensation became stronger and stronger.
She was perspiring struggling to control her feelings. She would sometimes catch herself unconsciously rubbing her thighs together. And every time she did she would immediately stop and glare at Nadia.
Y-you did that on purpose! Amara thought, with teary angry eyes.
Nadia would, from time to time, watch Amara behind her back and chuckle to herself. She couldn't deny that she had some pervy thoughts on her mind. She knew exactly why her cute princess was breathing heavily as she followed her. Sometimes she would fall behind and, because of that, tug the leash. But then she would speed her pace to catch up. Which, in the end, made the crotch rope rub on her a bit harder every time. Amara was stuck in that teasing cycle.
"Want me to stop, princess? Catch some air."
Amara saw a grin on Nadia's mouth as she suggested that. And it annoyed her. She definitely wanted to stop and give Nadia a piece of her mind. But Amara was too prideful to do it and explain on why she needed to stop in the first place.
I-I won't give you the satisfaction... "N-no. W-we can continue. I'm... aaah... "
She was about to say she was alright but Amara ended moaning erotically before completing her sentence. It escaped her lips and in turn made her totally embarrassed. She looked up front and saw that Nadia's face was also red.
W-why are YOU blushing???? I'm the one embarrassed here!!!
Nadia felt her face burning. She was looking at Amara as she moaned. She thought it was such an erotic expression on the girl's face that it caught her completely off guard.
Sexy!! Princess, you're too sexy!! Nadia thought. "T-then let's keep going. If we keep this pace we'll leave the forest way after dawn. So... we might need to camp again"
Nadia tried to keep her head thinking on other things for the moment. She didn't understand why she also felt embarrassed seeing Amara's reaction this time. It also made her heart beat faster. She couldn't remember a time in her entire life she felt that way. But the cute, prideful slave-girl that she had leashed was doing that to her.

The mage finally arrived at Lagrandier. And sooner than he expected. It was dusk already and soon the evening would come. The trip by horse went smoothly and he felt a bit more at ease to be finally back at the city. Although he was concerned on the fact that he returned without products, without the slaves to sell and most of his equipment. ,
The two people he had been working with stayed behind, searching for their missing slave. He always remained calm and collected. Specially at the presence of others. He would never allow anyone to look down on him for being too emotional. But, at this moment, he was in a terrible mood, to say the least.
That mongrel! Putting me in such a spot. Thought the mage, his anger almost reaching it's limit.
He always felt contempt for the rogue and the warrior he had been working with. He didn't care for what they wanted or wished to do. In his own view, they were disposable pawns. They were just part of a simple plan to gain money in a fast and easy way.
It was way more profitable than working as an adventurer or any other line of work that was suitable for a magic caster. Kidnapping young plebe girls from poor districts or places not well patrolled by the authorities. People who couldn't fight for themselves and wouldn't be missed by anyone important enough. And then, forging their registration papers as slaves and selling them after.
It was simple and easy. Yet, this last job was the most chaotic. Everything went wrong and now he faced a debt that wasn't his to begin with. And just remembering that made him even angrier.
I will kill that idiot. He forced me into this mess. Actually, I don't need those two anymore. I'll make a new plan and get this over with.
Illegally selling slaves wasn't something new. Specially within the black market. There were plenty of activities like that. But finding a way to falsify some documents was his own doing. Looking for a notary that he could bribe. Negotiating with any guard that could, eventually, get in their way. It was all his doing.
He wouldn't let one other than himself to be responsible for such delicate aspects of his plan. Therefore, he was the only one who knew where to find the person that would register the slave.
I better head to his office before he closes it.
The mage was focused on arriving at his destination before closing time. It would have been a huge waste of time and energy if it happened.
If that fool was so desperate in bringing that girl here, it means that we don't have much time left to pay.
He was in such a hurry, lost on his own thoughts and his awareness clouded by anger that he didn't notice a couple of strange figures that were following him the moment he entered the city.

It got dark quickly but Nadia wasn’t worried as she was used to this kind of environment. On the other hand, Amara was looking around apprehensive. She couldn’t defend herself and had to rely completely on Nadia. Her worries even made her ignore the crotch rope that was on her. She found a way to walk a constant pace that wouldn’t rub so much. Besides, she was hearing a lot of sounds coming from the forest. Small critters but also larger ones who would roar far away from their position. That made her on edge and rethink on how careless she has been. At least I’m not alone this time. If something, or someone, other than Nadia had found me…
Nadia explained earlier that she wanted to proceed, even if it got dark, and gain some time. Since they were walking without any issues. She asked Amara if it was alright for them to do it like that. There was a full moon as well. The forest now wasn’t as dense as it was before and the natural light helped illuminating their way. Amara agreed as she wasn't feeling tired at all and saw that Nadia was used to traveling at night. She thanked Nadia for taking her into consideration on that decision, which Nadia just giggled as if it was a silly thing to be thankful for.
For Amara, such questions were important for her. She understood how helpless she was. She might not be as experienced as Nadia but she preferred to be able to fight for herself. Now she wasn't able to even eat without someone helping her. Defending herself or another was something out of her hands at this moment. She would be in grave danger if she was found by some wild animal or a creature like an orc or an ogre that she heard and read about. Although, she didn’t know if those creatures could be found in a forest such as this.
Up front, Nadia was scouting the area carefully, seeing if there was any presence nearby. Animals, creatures or maybe people. She was worried more about the latter. She could fend off animals and monsters from this region easily. But people, on the other hand, were always a surprise. And she still thought on the possibility of finding the men who cuffed Amara.
“Princess, tell me, how did you escape from those guys?”
Amara was still restless because of all the sounds coming from the forest and got startled by the sudden question from Nadia.
“Ah! Y-yes, right. I didn't tell you how it happened. There was a rockslide when we were passing on the mountain and then...”
As Amara followed close by the leash's length, she explained in every detail she could remember that night. From the moment the rocks came destroying the wagon to when she fell from the cliff and found Nadia's camp. Nadia suddenly stopped after Amara finishing telling the whole story. The cuffed girl looked worried as she saw Nadia frozen for a few seconds and then turned around. Looking at Nadia's eyes she could see that she wasn't happy at all. Actually, she had an annoyed and, somewhat, angry stare in her eyes.
"You, cuffed like that, risked too much for a stranger. One that didn't help you at all. You could have died."
The girl bowed her head. But she then raised it quickly with a serious, fierce stare toward Nadia.
"I had to do it! I was very scared. Scared for myself, for that poor girl as well... but I couldn't just let things like that. I had to do something."
Nadia wanted to retort. She wanted to tell the restrained girl in front of her that she shouldn't throw away her life just so she could indulge in some sense of justice that she had. But, she couldn't form words for it. Amara spoke with passion. She had an urge to help those in need, even if herself was also in need of protection. Nadia could only sigh slightly annoyed with that answer but also couldn't help but break a smile seeing the girl's face.
"You're too honest to be real, princess." Nadia softly smiled and petted the girl's head as she said that.
Amara blushed and turned her face away embarrassed. Something she couldn't get used to every time Nadia talked with her. The woman chuckled to her quiet response but then cleared her throat a couple of times, tugged lightly the leash and immediately started walking. Amara quickly followed behind but this time ended forgetting about the crotch rope. She suppressed her moan as it rubbed between her legs because of the sudden increase of pace. She was also glad that Nadia didn't seem to take notice.
"Now, let's talk and walk... You all were on that path through the mountain. I got that. So, do you think they could come down and follow you directly?”
Now Amara found herself pondering with that question. If the slavers followed her by descending the cliff, those three would be now behind them. Even if by some good distance. Amara closed her eyes, concentrating on her memories of that moment, before she fell.
It was raining so much... And the terrain treacherous ... The wagon was destroyed because of the rocks so they wouldn't have to worry about it but...
“No. It's impossible. The cliff was very steep. I didn't see any climber's kit with them and on how they presented themselves I can affirm that didn't have the appropriate skills to safely climb down that mountain on their own. And, if they did, they would have to give up on any equipment they must have salvaged, and specially the other captive as well.”
Nadia nodded as if confirming her own thoughts and hypothesis with what Amara said. She stared at the mountain's direction. Although she couldn't see it properly because of the trees, she knew where it's located.
"Then, they must have continued and crossed that path. By now, if they didn't stop for anything, they are ahead of us. In order to come look for you, they will have to come to this forest. We'll end meeting them sooner or later."
By the geographic of the place they were, the forest ran through the entire base of the mountain and made a big 'S' curve. The forest was dense and not appropriate for any vehicle. The road on the mountain was treacherous, also inappropriate for something like a wagon to pass through it. The slavers deliberately wanted to use it to avoid the main roads. But to come to the conclusion that they would specifically come back through the forest was...
"… isn't that too far off? I mean, that seems more like wishful thinking..."
That reasoning that Nadia gave had a lot of guesses, in Amara's opinion. Losing one captive wouldn't necessary be enough reason to enter the forest after managing to survive previous perils. She wanted to believe that things would go smoothly like that but it wasn't easy.
"... How can you be so sure that they will come this way?"
Hearing Amara's question, Nadia turned to look at her with a smile on her face.
"A hunch!"
"Heh?!"
She was so perplexed by the answer and how casual Nadia spoke it that Amara couldn't find words to express herself. She calmed down a little but then got angry and worried, thinking that it's irresponsible to expect that everything would work out based on a guess.
"What do you mean by 'a hunch'? Please, be serious with this!"
Nadia noticed that Amara wasn't content with her answer but still smiled, looking at the girl, which made her even angrier.
"I am serious! Don't worry, princess. I'm rarely wrong with my hunches."
Amara was still worried. She wasn't a person to expect things to end up well based on chances. She sighed worried. Still, even with all the uncertainty, she couldn’t deny that, deep down, she trusted Nadia and some of that worry faded when she talked so certain of things.
They were done talking and silently walked. Since the night was still bright because of the moon light and the stars, they could see their way, or at least Nadia still didn't have any issues with it. But it was getting late and they would have to stop at any moment. After a few more meters, Amara saw that Nadia that stopped completely but became very, very quiet. Amara thought that she might have found trouble near them and immediately looked around. She couldn’t see anything that might cause suspicious. But she wasn't experienced with tracking nor looking at things at this kind of eerie atmosphere. Before she could open her mouth to ask if something was wrong Nadia finally moved again. She ran toward her, grabbed Amara by her right arm and quickly dragged her behind some trees and bushes.
“Nadia?! What’s wrmmmmfgh!”
A hand gagged Amara and prevented her from speaking any further. Amara looked surprised at Nadia, which slowly released her hand from Amara’s mouth but put her forefinger over her mouth, telling her to stay quiet. She had a very serious expression on her face. A complete contrast to when they were chatting a few minutes ago. Amara nodded, understanding.
Both girls carefully looked from behind their cover. Amara was more following Nadia, looking at the same direction, as she was the one that detected something suspicious. She forced her eye view as much as she could. It was late at night. The darkness made everything way more difficult to see, even with a full moon on top of them. But, after a while, she finally saw it. A silhouette over the distance. No, there were two. And its form resembled humans walking in the forest.
“I told you my hunches are accurate.” Whispered Nadia on Amara’s ears.
